Forty representatives of the dairy sector from Nis, Pirot and Toplica, successfully sompleted a seven-day study visit to Austria. Visit was organized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the City of Nis and the Cheese Cluster “South” while the visitors were hosted by the Agricultural Chamber of the Province of Karnten.
Dairy producers from Southern Serbia visited a number of institutions as well as dairy farms, where they had the opportunity to learn best practices in dairy sector organization, primary production, processing, veterinary care and support of the government to this important industry branch. This experience gained will certainly leave a tremendous positive effect on milk and dairy producers in this region, all the more since
colleagues from the Austrian Agricultural Cluster agreed to hold professional seminar this September in Nis.
Candidate status for EU accession opens up wide possibilities for accessing funds for agriculture and rural development. Austrian colleagues have expressed readiness to provide all the necessary assistance and support to the Cheese Cluster “SOUTH” on its projects for dairy sector development and a joint approach to the EU funds.
Cheese Cluste “South” brings together producers, processors, educational and scientific institutions and local governments across the Southern Serbia. Project is supported by the European Union through “Regional Socio Economic Development Programme 2″ and the goal is the efficient formation of highly productive dairy sector, with products that have strong characteristics and quality of the Southern Serbian Region.
